Project Description

What we do:

Since 2006 we’ve delivered a digital copywriting course as part of Publishing Scotland’s training programme. Originally known as “Writing for the Web” the course is now called “Digital Writing Skills”.

The difference it makes:

The course is popular with content editors across the publishing sector, but also people working in the third sector, public sector and more commercial roles.

Particular challenges:

The course attracts novices, skilled writers and everyone in between. Pitching the section on Search Engine Optimisation is always a challenge as some delegates have no knowledge or interest while others are experts.

Highlights:

Sustaining this course for over a decade means there is now a wealth of example material gleaned from a period of considerable change in design approach and understanding about how audiences connect with content.

Spin-offs:

This course has led to some large scale pieces of consultancy work for Cygnus Extra, including working with Scottish Natural Heritage, Creative Scotland, SQA and National Galleries.

About Cygnus Extra:

‘We initially contacted Cygnus about the possibility of running a writing for the web course for us. From the start we were impressed with Hilary’s ability to develop and deliver appropriate training for both public and in-house courses. We have confidence that her courses deliver a combination of best practice and up-to-date knowledge in an engaging way and she is one of our most trusted and popular tutors.’
